Electroless Nickel/Hard Chromium
You often need a duplex coating of electroless nickel and hard chromium when a surface is subjected to extremely high corrosion and wear stress. A combination of 30µm electroless nickel and 30µm hard chromium is frequently used.

For piston rods that are exposed to higher corrosion stresses due to saltwater spray or a maritime climate, a duplex coating using electroless nickel as a protective layer against corrosion is the solution to the problem.
